Shane Pellerin Law Firm Probate LawyerAndrea Yates, the mother who drowned her children, may get privileges to leave the state hospital with restrictions.

Nearly 13 years ago Yates drowned her five children in the bathtub of her Clear Lake, Texas home. Yates’ attorney is trying to get her privileges that would make it possible for her to leave the hospital with a supervisor.

Yates has been confined since her 2001 arrest, and while she was initially found guilty in 2002, in 2006 she was found not guilty by reason of insanity. She’s the only patient at Kerrville State Hospital who isn’t allowed supervised outings.

Yates has been diagnosed with several mental illnesses since the drowning deaths of her five children, including schizophrenia. Her doctors feel that she is managed well enough that she’s safe to take these trips and they would help her mental condition.
