Shane Pellerin Law Firm, PCBraskem formally approved building a new $675 million polypropylene plant in La Porte, Texas, which will produce nearly 500,000 tons of polypropylene a year.

The Brazilian thermoplastics producer’s North American base is in Philadelphia, but they chose the 200-acre site next to Braskem’s current La Porte production facilities. Braskem chose the La Porte site over other options as it had a ready supply of raw material from nearby petrochemical operations.

The La Porte plant might be a prototype for Braskem’s future expansion.
