A crane struck and killed a truck driver at the Port of Houston Barbours Cut container terminal facility.

The truck driver was struck Thursday afternoon by a rubber-tired gantry crane. Gantry cranes are used in a range of marine applications, from ship-to-shore container transfer or moving containers throughout a port facility. Officers from the La Porte police department will likely assist with the investigation.

One of the busiest ports in the nation, a range of industrial incidents have occurred at the port over the past years. Last year, an oil tanker caught fire and resulted in a blocked ship channel. In May 2015, a worker fell into a ship’s cargo hold, suffering injuries.
