A fire in southwest Houston has left eight families without homes this morning.

Four units were destroyed and another four severely damaged in the fire, which started in a complex between Welch and Indiana streets.

The first began around 6:30 p.m., when fire fighters arrived at the scene to find flames coming out the back side of the building. Although they initially were able to subdue the fire, it then spread to other units in the complex. Authorities believe the fire was because of electrical issues, but will investigate.

The Red Cross is providing food, blankets and hotel rooms to those affected. To help assist the displaced families, contact the Houston Red Cross, or click here.
