The largest thermoplastics resins producer in the Americas announced the commissioning of a new polyethylene production plant at its La Porte, Texas site. Braskem sells high-performance ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene engineered-polymer under the trade name UTEC.
The La Porte production plant increases Braskem’s footprint in the United States. Earlier this year, the company enhanced its research and development capabilities at the company’s Innovation and Technology Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“Our new UTEC UHMWPE plant in Texas is another step in bringing Braskem closer to our clients with advanced engineered polymers as well as creating additional high-quality engineering and production jobs in La Porte,” said Christopher Gee, Braskem Global Business Director for UTEC.
The new La Porte UTEC plant is scheduled for startup by the end of 2016. Braskem is currently concluding tests to ensure performance and safety.
