Shane Pellerin Law Firm, PCLa Porte firefighters and a hazmat team contained a chemical spill yesterday after a ruptured pipeline in the petrochemical district led to a shelter inside warning.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, residents of Baytown, La Porte and Shoreacres were given orders to shelter in place, which means they were told to stay inside, shut off air conditioning and close all doors and windows.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday La Porte police signaled that the chemical emergency had been resolved. No injuries were reported as part of the chemical emergency.

The chemical that had leaked was anhydrous hydrogen chloride, which can cause symptoms of eye, throat and nasal irritation.

The La Porte police have not yet identified what company was involved in the chemical emergency.
