A man who reportedly choked his common law wife to death in southeast Houston is facing charges. The man and woman were allegedly in a dispute related to how she disciplined their children.
Authorities say they initially responded to reports of a “custody battle” at an extended stay hotel located at 500 Bay Area Boulevard.
Police arrived around 8:30 p.m., and the man and the woman in their 20s were able to resolve their conflict. They received another call several hours later from the man saying that he had choked the woman.
The officers say that the man told them that the woman was choking one of their children, and he responded by putting her in a chokehold.
The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital. Their children were not injured in the incident.
