A “chemical emergency” in La Porte led to a shelter-in-place order and eight people being hospitalized.
Authorities from the city of La Porte say that a chemical release of phosgene led to the emergency.
The release occurred at ALTIVIA Speciality Chemicals. Officials said that the release of phosgene happened as a result of the rupture of a pressure release device.
