Shane Pellerin Law Firm, PCThe first working marijuana grow facilities will start soon in Texas.

Compassionate Cultivation announced that it would start planting cannabis plants this week. The announcement was made one day after the Texas Department of Public Safety gave Compassionate Cultivation the final approval to participate in the program.

The DPS has one more license to give out, and it’s assumed it will go to Surterra. The third license went to Cansortium Texas.

The fact that the Compassionate Use Program capped the number of participating companies at three has led to controversy and outrage. In addition to capping the companies at three, the law also requires doctors to “prescribe” medical marijuana.

The goal is to provide medical marijuana to patients by early 2018.
