Shane Pellerin Law Firm, PCFlaring at a Deer Park Shell chemical plant that began after a power outage Thursday continued for days after the incident. While flares are part of emergency procedures to keep community members safe, the incidents have physical and mental impacts on communities.

Authorities from the Harris County Office of Emergency Management and Pollution Control say that Shell representatives haven’t answered questions regarding which chemicals are involved with the incident. They also haven’t explained why the flares are lasting for so long.

Harris County authorities are hoping to get more answers, and they hope that flares that last as long as these don’t become the norm.
