Shell reported flooding Saturday afternoon in the chemical plant of its Deer Park, Texas petrochemical and refining complex. The flooding is a result of storms that dumped more than 8 inches of rain on the Deer Park area.
A source said that there were no known problems at the Deer Park chemical plant as a result of the flooding.
Shell said the flooding caused “an unauthorized discharge due to an oil-sheen carryover at one of the facility’s stormwater outfalls.”
Shell has announced that they are taking steps to mitigate the oil sheen.
