Shane Pellerin Law Firm, PCA Houston father rescued his 10 children from their burning home on Memorial Day.

Khou.com reports that Brian Robertson and his wife awoke at about 5 a.m. May 25 to a wall of fire in their Batcher Street home.

“By the time I get through the hallway, I see smoke everywhere,” Robertson told Khou.com. “I see orange flames. And I hear my kids say, ‘Mama, daddy!'”

The parents pushed four of their children out the kitchen window; six others were still trapped in the house.

Robertson told Khou.com that he ran back inside, but smoke in the hallway was so thick that he couldn’t see and had to come out for air. Meanwhile, the remaining children ran to a back room, but could not escape – its windows were enclosed with burglar bars.

“I took a brick and I was just constantly pounding on these burglar bars,” Robertson told Khou.com. “And once it broke off of here, I bent it over and I said to my kids, ‘Come on! Come on!'”

Robertson pulled each of the remaining children to safety.

“My God is good,” his wife, Tamika, told Khou.com. “That’s all I can say.”

Ten children, ages 4 to 16, were taken to the hospital by paramedics. Most were treated for minor smoke inhalation and released; two were held overnight for observation.

Neighbors are calling the man a hero.

“I just don’t think it’s a hero,” Robertson said. “I just think it’s a father doing what he’s supposed to do.”

The house was destroyed. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
