A Houston SWAT team ended an altercation Tuesday morning by killing a man suspected of kidnapping his wife.
Witnesses saw the suspect forcing a woman into his car at gunpoint near the La Quinta Inn on the Southwest Freeway. After the suspect drove away, witnesses called police.
Police found the suspect in Southwest Houston with the woman inside his car. Because of the standoff situation, officers called in a SWAT team to assist. Using a loudspeaker and negotiating, the SWAT team tried to get the suspect to stand down.
After that was unsuccessful, the team diverted the suspect’s attention and pulled the woman to safety. When the suspect realized this, he pointed his gun at officers, who then opened fire and killed the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Houston Police Department’s Internal Affairs is also investigating the case.
