Shane Pellerin Law Firm Probate LawyerPolice arrested a 29-year-old man in Conroe, Texas Monday evening after he allegedly abandoned his infant son after a rollover accident in July.

James Williams  Hammons, Jr. has been charged with a number of charges, which include child abandonment, driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age and felony failure to stop and render aid.

Investigators on the case say the incident happened July 20 on East Williams Road and South Williams Road around 10:30 p.m.

Witnesses on the scene of the accident say they saw a baby lying face down in the road and initially thought it was a doll that had been ejected from the vehicle.

Neighbors say that he had been in argument, taken the baby and not put the child in a safety seat.

Investigators say that the child had been ejected from a Ford Fusion, which was about 20 feet away, upside down.

The child has since been released from the hospital and is in foster care.

Hammons is being detained at Polk County Jail.
