According to Pasadena Police, an off-duty deputy chased after and fired upon a shoplifter, with one bullet ricocheting and striking his own leg.

Sunday afternoon a shoplifter at Marshalls on Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena grabbed a stack of clothes and ran out of the building.

An off-duty deputy with Precinct 5 happened to be in the area on his day off. After chasing the thief to his car, the shoplifter attempted to run over the deputy.

The shoplifter managed to get away. The off-duty deputy was taken to Memorial Hermann Southeast with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg.

His injuries do not appear to be life threatening according to Pasadena Police.
