The Deer Park Shell plant was glowing early Tuesday morning as a result of flaring at the plant.
For some the sight of flaring is normal, but for others it can be jarring.
People as far away as I-10 and the 610 West Loop said they were able to see the glow.
The Shell plant in Deer Park was conducting flaring early Tuesday morning. During this process, flare stacks are used to burn off chemicals to relieve pressure in the facility.
The plant said that the flaring was caused by “work activities.”
No emergency action was in place.
