A U.S. pipeline was forced to shut down this weekend due to a ransomware attack. Houston experts warn that cyber extortion plots like the one against the Colonial Pipeline could become more common if outdated computer systems aren’t updated.
Dr. Chris Bronk with the University of Houston says that this ransomware attack is like someone putting a boot on a car, but on computers. He says that similar attacks like this could affect corporations and municipalities.
Experts point out that systems become more vulnerable when they utilize the internet for convenience.
