A SWAT standoff that resulted in an arrest ended Sunday around 1:25 p.m. The man, armed with a hatchet, had barricaded himself in his Third Ward apartment, jumped out the window, where police took him into custody.

Houston police began receiving calls from neighbors, worried about a man seen carrying a hatchet around the neighborhood. Police say he knocked on at least one person’s door before barricading himself in his second-floor apartment.

Negotiations between the man and police lasted for about 90 minutes. Just before the man jumped, police had broken a window and fired tear gas into the apartment.

Police said the man was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
