A 15-year-old suspect has been charged in the death of a student from South Houston whose body was found in an abandoned apartment complex.
The body of 15-year-old Karen Perez was found Tuesday by volunteers at the 1600 block of Avenue N near Shaver across the street from South Houston High School. Perez was last seen there on Friday, May 27 leaving school.
The body was found hidden in a cabinet under the kitchen sink.
According to prosecutors, the suspect was the victim’s boyfriend, and his dad tipped off police.
The family of the victim is urging officials to do something about the apartment complex as they say the building has become a haven for drugs and potentially criminal behavior.
