A Saturday morning refinery explosion injured one at Pasadena Refining Systems, Inc. Officials from the refinery say that the fire began around 10:15 a.m. The victim of the explosion suffered burns on his hands.
Area residents near the Pasadena refinery say that they felt a large blast and then saw flames rising from the refinery. A spokesperson for the refinery says the explosion was a result of an issue with a compressor.
The refinery’s firefighters were able to put out the blaze. Witnesses say they could see smoke from the explosion miles away.
According to the EPA, Pasadena Refining Systems, Inc. has a history of violations against the U.S. Clean Air Act.
The plant is known to store a range of chemicals.
